Slow colour, precise cutting.

A four-chair salon working in wearable tones and shapes that keep their line for months, not weeks. One stylist, one client, no double-booking.

Tue – Sat Four chairs Consultation included

01 — The salon

A small room that works at one pace.

Olive Vessel was opened by two colourists who wanted longer appointments and fewer of them. The room holds four chairs, a back bar with three basins, and a colour bench in daylight.

Every booking begins with a seated consultation before anything is mixed or sectioned. We look at how your hair grows, how it has been coloured before, and how much time you actually want to spend on it at home. If the shape you have brought in will not hold on your hair, we will say so and offer the nearest thing that will.

We work mainly in lived-in colour — root shadows, soft lifts, glosses that fade evenly — and in dry cutting for texture. The intention is that you can leave a gap of eight or ten weeks without the grow-out becoming a problem.

03 — Your first visit

Four things happen, in this order.

  1. 01

    Consultation, seated and dry

Fifteen minutes before anything else. We talk through your hair history, look at the grow-out you have now, and agree what is realistic in one appointment. Bring photographs of what you like and what you do not.

  2. 02

    Testing, where colour is involved

A strand test tells us how your hair will lift; an allergy test is taken at least 48 hours before any tint. Both are free and both can be done on a separate short visit.

  3. 03

    The work itself

One stylist stays with you from start to finish. Nobody is passed to a second chair halfway through, which is why our colour slots run long and are limited each week.

  4. 04

    Finish and a plan

We show you how the shape is meant to fall, what to do with it on a rushed morning, and when to come back. You leave with a written note of the formula used.

Home care notes

Keeping it for eight weeks

  • Wait 48 hours after colour before the first wash — the cuticle is still settling.
  • Wash in warm rather than hot water; heat is what pulls tone out of a gloss.
  • Heat-protect before any tool above 150 °C, including a rough blow-dry.
  • Rotate a bond-building treatment in weekly if you lighten more than twice a year.
  • Book a fringe trim at week four; it buys you another month on the cut.
04 — The chairs

You book a person, not a salon.

Three stylists work the floor. Tell us who you would like in the appointment request and we will match the diary where we can.

Rowan Ashby

Cutting · Co-founder

Dry cutting and heavy hair. Rowan takes the restyles and anything that needs weight removing without losing the line. Teaches the salon's Monday cutting sessions.

Ines Moreau

Colour · Co-founder

Balayage and correction work. Ines plans long lifts across two or three visits and writes the formula notes clients take home. Handles most colour removals.

Devi Raman

Curl & texture

Curl shaping, scalp care and fine hair. Devi runs the curl consultations and prefers to cut curls dry, one coil at a time, before anything is washed.

05 — Questions

Asked often enough to write down.

How far ahead do I need to request an appointment?

Cuts usually go in within two weeks. Full-head colour and balayage tend to run four to six weeks out because each slot takes half a stylist's day. If you are flexible on the day of the week, say so in the request — short-notice gaps open most Thursdays.

What happens if I need to cancel or move my appointment?

Let us know at least 48 hours ahead and we will move you at no cost. Inside 48 hours we ask for half the booking value, because a long colour slot rarely refills at short notice. If you are ill, we will always waive it.

Do I really need an allergy test before colour?

Yes, for any tint, and it must be at least 48 hours before the appointment. It takes five minutes and is repeated every six months, or sooner if your reaction history changes. Foils and balayage that use no tint on the scalp are handled case by case in the consultation.

Will you work over box colour, henna or extensions?

Box colour and henna both need a strand test first — henna in particular can react badly with lightener, and we will not guess. We cut and colour around tape and micro-ring extensions but we do not fit or remove them, and we will not lighten hair that has bonded extensions in place.

Can I bring my child, and do you cut children's hair?

We cut hair from age eight upwards, booked as a dry trim. For your own appointment the room is small and the colour bench is open, so we ask that children under eight are not on the floor while work is in progress.

How long should I allow for a big change?

Going several shades lighter from a dark base is a three- to four-hour appointment at minimum and often two visits six weeks apart. A restyle on its own is ninety minutes. We would rather book you the honest amount of time than rush the second half.
